Overview
The Jamaican-born community in the UK is one of Britain's oldest and largest Caribbean populations — concentrated in London (Brixton, Tottenham, Hackney), Birmingham (Handsworth) and Manchester (Moss Side, Hulme), with deep roots going back to the Windrush generation of the 1948–1973 period. That diaspora drives a sustained family-visa flow from Jamaica to the UK alongside the Visit, Student and Skilled Worker categories, all submitted through the VFS Global UK Visa Application Centre and decided by UK Visas and Immigration. The British High Commission on Trafalgar Road in Kingston is the post that handles both ends: visa enquiries and application support for Jamaican nationals heading to the UK, and consular services for the British community resident on the island plus the steady tourist traffic to the north-coast resorts (Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios). British visitors come for the beaches, the Bob Marley Museum, Dunn's River Falls, Port Royal, the Blue Mountains coffee country, and the island's jerk and rum traditions. Hurricane season runs from June to November — check the UK government travel advice for Jamaica before travelling. In-person services by appointment via the FCDO website.
