Malta Embassy in Vienna

Embassy of Malta in Vienna, Austria

Overview

The Embassy of the Republic of Malta in Vienna is Malta's principal diplomatic mission in Austria, located directly on the Opernring facing the Vienna State Opera in the heart of the 1st district. Ambassador Natasha Meli Daudey heads the mission, which serves Maltese nationals across Austria and promotes bilateral relations between the two EU member states. Malta — the Mediterranean archipelago whose 7,000 years of continuous habitation have left a cultural landscape spanning megalithic temples older than the Egyptian pyramids, Phoenician harbours, medieval fortified cities, and one of the most intact Baroque urban centres in Europe (Valletta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site) — is a compact but diplomatically active nation with representation across Europe. Austria and Malta share EU membership, Catholic heritage, and a mutual interest in multilateral diplomacy through the Vienna-based international organizations. The embassy is supported by four honorary consulates across Austria — in Graz, Klagenfurt, Linz, and St. Pölten — providing regional contact points in the federal states.

Consular Services

The embassy provides full consular services to Maltese nationals in Austria: passport applications and renewals, civil registration, document legalisation, and emergency consular assistance. As both Malta and Austria are EU and Schengen members, no visa is required for Maltese citizens travelling to Austria or vice versa. The embassy also assists with voter registration for Maltese citizens abroad and can facilitate contact with Maltese authorities for legal and administrative matters.

Service Area

The embassy covers the entire Republic of Austria. Four honorary consulates in Graz (Styria), Klagenfurt (Carinthia), Linz (Upper Austria), and St. Pölten (Lower Austria) provide regional relay points, though they hold no passport, visa, or authentication authority.

Appointment Information

The embassy is open Monday to Friday, mornings 09:00–12:00 and afternoons 14:00–16:00. Consular services may require prior appointment; contact the embassy by telephone or email.
