Overview

The Embassy of Italy in Beijing manages the bilateral relationship between Italy and China — a comprehensive strategic partnership covering trade, investment, culture, science and tourism. Italy and China have deep historical ties dating to Marco Polo and the ancient Silk Road. The embassy coordinates four consulates general — in Shanghai, Guangzhou (Canton), Chongqing and Hong Kong. Italy is one of China's largest European trading partners, and Chinese tourism to Italy (fashion, food, art, history) is a major economic driver. The Italian Cultural Institute in Beijing promotes Italian language, art, design and cinema.

Visa Services

Schengen and national visa applications for Chinese citizens are processed through the visa section. Italy is part of the Schengen Area and one of the most popular European destinations for Chinese tourists — fashion (Milan), food (Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna), art (Florence, Rome, Venice) and history draw millions of visitors.

Consular Services

Trade & Export Support

Italy exports machinery, fashion and luxury goods, automotive (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Fiat), food products (wine, olive oil, pasta, cheese), furniture and design to China. Italian Trade Agency (ICE) operates from the embassy to support Italian exporters. The Camera di Commercio Italiana in Cina supports bilateral business.

Cultural & Educational Programs

The Italian Cultural Institute (Istituto Italiano di Cultura) in Beijing promotes Italian language, cinema, art, design and fashion. The Marco Polo and Turandot programmes facilitate Chinese students studying at Italian universities. Dante Alighieri societies support Italian language education.
