Overview

The Honorary Consulate of Italy in Innsbruck provides consular assistance for Italian citizens in Tyrol (Tirol). The Honorary Consul is Dr. Herbert Schoepf, in post since 2015. The consulate has authentication authority and can accept passport and identity card applications as well as biometric data for passport renewals. Innsbruck's position at the Brenner Pass — the principal road and rail crossing between Austria and Italy — makes this one of the most important Italian honorary consulates in Austria. The Italian community in Tyrol is substantial, rooted in cross-border trade, tourism, university exchange, and the historical and cultural connections between Tyrol and South Tyrol (Alto Adige/Südtirol) across the border.
