Overview
The Honorary Consulate of Hungary in Innsbruck is the city's secondary Hungarian post, distinct from the full Hungarian Consulate General that also operates in Innsbruck on Speckbacherstraße. The honorary office is at Anichstraße 1/II, in the centre of Innsbruck near the Maria-Theresien-Straße, and is run by Honorary Consul Dr. Christian Winder (in post since July 2015) — a Tirolean lawyer at the Winder & Zelger firm. As an honorary consulate the office holds Beglaubigungsbefugnis only — no passport or visa authority — and operates on a limited Monday-only schedule (09:00–12:00) that complements the full-service career Consulate General nearby. The two posts coexist because the Tirolean Hungarian community is large enough to support a local lawyer-led document-authentication channel in addition to the Consulate General's full service: anyone needing only a quick beglaubigte Kopie or a witnessed signature can use the Anichstraße office without booking a Consulate General appointment, while passports, visas, civil-status acts and full consular matters all route through the Speckbacherstraße Consulate General as before.
Consular Services
Beglaubigungsbefugnis only — document and signature authentication on a Monday-morning walk-in basis. The office cannot issue Hungarian passports, identity cards or visas, cannot register births/marriages/deaths, and cannot perform notarial acts requiring full embassy authority. For all such matters Tirolean residents go to the Hungarian Consulate General at Speckbacherstraße 31-33, also in Innsbruck. The honorary consul also serves as a Tirol-based first-line contact for Hungarian nationals in distress.
Service Area
Tirol. The office's jurisdiction is Tirol; full consular services for Tirol (and for Salzburg and Vorarlberg) are provided by the Hungarian Consulate General at Speckbacherstraße 31-33, Innsbruck.
Appointment Information
Public office hours are Monday only, 09:00–12:00. The phone +43 512 576 369 15 is answered only on Monday; for the rest of the week contact by email at hu.konsulat@winder-zelger.at or by fax +43 512 566 082. For services requiring full embassy authority, go directly to the Hungarian Consulate General at Speckbacherstraße 31-33 (a 10-minute walk from the honorary office), open Monday to Thursday 09:00–12:00 and 13:00–16:00 and Friday 09:00–12:00.
Special Notes
Two Hungarian consular posts in the same city (the full Consulate General on Speckbacherstraße and the honorary office on Anichstraße) is unusual and reflects the historical Tirolean-Hungarian community size. Honorary consulates everywhere are staffed in a non-professional capacity by prominent local figures — Dr. Winder runs the consular role alongside his law-firm practice at Winder & Zelger. Working languages are German and Hungarian.
