German Embassy in Suva

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Suva, opened in August 2023, represents Germany's growing engagement with the Pacific region, particularly on climate change and disaster prevention given Fiji's vulnerability to rising sea levels. Germany and Fiji have maintained diplomatic relations since 1973, culminating in Foreign Minister Baerbock's historic visit in 2024 and the joint organization of UN Climate Change Conference COP23 in 2017. The embassy coordinates German development cooperation through GIZ's Suva office, focusing on regional climate adaptation programs while strengthening bilateral ties with this key Pacific island nation.

The embassy provides emergency consular assistance to German nationals in Fiji. For routine consular services including passport applications, civil status registrations, and notarial services, German citizens should contact the German Embassy in Wellington, New Zealand. In western Fiji and the outer islands, the Honorary Consul in Nadi provides local emergency support and can assist with urgent matters.
